What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol - a compound found in hemp and cannabis plants. It supports many of your body’s natural processes to help you manage pain, sleep, stress, and more. People have been using CBD as medicine for hundreds of years, but it only recently became more accessible. CBD is an all-purpose player: it supports your overall health, is safe and effective, and doesn’t get you high.

What's Inside

CBD Isolate

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is pure CBD. It’s made by extracting away all substances and compounds from the hemp plant, leaving pure CBD that doesn’t contain THC, terpenes, flavonoids, or other cannabis plant compounds.

Whole Plant CBD

Whole plant CBD, or full-spectrum, contains all the naturally occurring hemp plant compounds, including CBD, terpenes, flavonoids, and only trace amounts of THC (<0.3 %), which isn’t enough to produce psychoactive effects.

Ambassadors bring Commons products to their friends, families, and communities and get extra resources to help support their loved ones’ journeys with CBD.

A few other companies are making great cannabinoid products, too - but we didn’t see any educating you well enough. Education has been part of our mission from the beginning.

Dr. June Chin is an integrative medical cannabis physician and Commons Chief Medical Advisor. She is an advocate for better understanding of the science and medicine of cannabis and serves on New York's Cannabis Advisory Board.

The CBD industry doesn’t have rules to guarantee safety - so we add those rules ourselves. Every batch of CBD and final product is sent to third-party labs for blind testing.

Chances are: you’re not the first person to wonder that. Check out our FAQ page for the questions we hear most often, and reach out if yours isn’t covered!

Dr. Junella Chin has specialized in integrative medicine for 15+ years. She has a unique perspective on cannabis-based therapies that incorporates the lessons of data science, crowd-sourced experiential knowledge, and individualized treatment strategies.

Curious about CBD and you?

CBD (and other cannabinoids) stimulate your body’s natural endocannabinoid system, which is involved in many internal processes in your body. Most of these processes are related to maintaining balance - so CBD helps your body support whatever is out of balance.

Just like yourself - your best self. On our team, we talk about softening our sharpest pain points (physically and mentally) so we can take a stressful day in stride more easily. The best effect of CBD is easing your sharpest points so much that you forget you needed CBD’s support! This author sometimes forgets to take her daily softgels and is fiercely reminded when her joint pain returns…

Oh, and CBD won’t get you high! That’s THC, a different cannabinoid. Sorry!

Depends on you. Some people are much more sensitive than others. Most people who have tried CBD before but not felt anything just didn’t take enough.

This is one of the most common questions we get, but it can also be the most difficult. We always suggest starting low and graduating higher. It’s important to know that it takes a couple of usages to understand the benefits of CBD. Figuring out how much you should take is more of an art than a science.

While any CBD product you purchase will come with its own dose guidelines, experiences can vary. The ideal CBD dose for you usually depends primarily on your body weight, but it can also be influenced by other factors, such as your personal body chemistry, your age, and any other health conditions you have.

Unfortunately, because it is not yet regulated by the FDA, no official dosing guidelines for CBD exist. However, for a general rule of thumb, consider using between 1mg (lower dose) and 6mg (higher dose) of CBD for every 10lbs of your body weight.

We have a big range of CBD sensitivity on our HQ team! We take anywhere from 20mg weekly to ease stress to 400mg daily to help manage chronic pain.

Most of our products are vegan. Some topicals (Relief Stick, Salve) required some beeswax for a much more effective texture, so they’re the exception.
